Join them from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm in the front plaza to see the solar eclipse in person or watch a live stream from cities along the eclipse’s direct path in the Planetarium and Auditorium. The duration of the partial solar eclipse in Portland will be 1 hour and 46 minutes, beginning at 10:33 am and ending at 12:19 pm. The maximum eclipse occurs at 11:25 am when the Moon covers 33 percent of the Sun’s diameter at 45 degrees above the southeastern horizon.

On Monday, April 8th, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland is gearing up to host an electrifying event – an eclipse viewing party like no other! As celestial enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the celestial show, OMSI invites the community to join them for an unforgettable experience under the skies.

What exactly is this cosmic spectacle that has everyone buzzing? It's none other than a solar eclipse! A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, casting a shadow on our planet. During this mesmerizing event, the daytime sky darkens, and the sun transforms into a breathtaking celestial halo. It's a natural wonder that never fails to captivate and inspire.

Now, before you whip out your eclipse glasses and set up your viewing spot, it's crucial to remember safety first! Viewing a solar eclipse directly without proper eye protection can cause serious eye damage or even blindness. OMSI emphasizes the importance of using certified solar viewing glasses to safeguard your eyes during the eclipse. These glasses are specially designed to filter out harmful ultraviolet and infrared rays, allowing you to witness the magic of the eclipse safely.

At OMSI's eclipse viewing party, safety is a top priority. In addition to providing certified eclipse glasses, the event will feature informative sessions led by experienced astronomers who will guide them on how to observe the eclipse safely. From hands-on activities to engaging presentations, there will be something for eclipse enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy.

But the fun doesn't stop there! OMSI's eclipse viewing party promises an atmosphere buzzing with excitement and camaraderie. Imagine sharing the awe-inspiring moment of totality with fellow sky gazers, exchanging exclamations of wonder as the moon casts its shadow across the sun. It's a chance to connect with others who share your passion for astronomy and witness a cosmic phenomenon that leaves a lasting impression.

So mark your calendars and get ready to witness the magic of a solar eclipse at OMSI's viewing party on April 8th. With safety measures in place and a lineup of captivating activities, it's sure to be an experience they won't soon forget. Join them as they come together to marvel at the wonders of the universe and create memories that will shine as brightly as the sun itself.
