Governor Kate Brown announced today that, effective immediately, Clackamas County has been approved to move to the Lower Risk level under the state's public health framework to reduce transmission and protect Oregonians from COVID-19.
The county today achieved a 65% first dose vaccination rate for adults and has submitted an equity plan to the state. When county movements for this week were announced on June 8, the county was just short of reaching that 65% goal. The county made a concerted push to reach 65% since then. Clackamas County’s public health nurses administered over 1,000 vaccines to homebound residents, and worked with all 10 school districts in the county to bring the vaccine directly to those schools for students and families.
“I would like to thank everyone in Clackamas County who worked so hard to make this possible,” said Governor Brown. “This truly was a community-wide effort. And thank you to everyone who has gotten vaccinated––you are protecting yourself, your loved ones, and your community from COVID-19. Now, let’s keep working so we can reach 70% statewide––if you’ve been waiting to get vaccinated, now is the time. It’s free, there are available appointments across the state, and you just might win $1 million.”
On May 11, Governor Brown announced that counties that vaccinate at least 65% of their adult residents with at least one dose and submit documentation on how they will close equity gaps in their vaccination efforts are eligible to move to the Lower Risk level. Weekly County Movements
As case rates continue to decline, county risk level changes will be announced every week. Counties can move to lower risk levels based either on vaccination rates and the submission of an equity plan, or declining case rates and positivity rates. The next risk level changes will be announced on Tuesday, June 15, to take effect on Friday, June 18.
When Oregon achieves a first dose 70% statewide vaccination rate for residents 18 or older, Oregon will lift all risk level health and safety restrictions. Some restrictions based on CDC guidance for use of masks and physical distancing may remain in place.
