The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to ID a suspect in a morning hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist injured. The suspect fled the scene in a red Cadillac DTS -- leaving behind the Cadillac's grill and a license plate.
The hit-and-run happened just before 7a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Rock Creek Junction in Happy Valley, where Highways 212 and 224 intersect.
The suspect vehicle -- a red 2009 Cadillac GTS -- was heading west on 212 and turning east onto 224. The suspect Cadillac ran a red light in the process, crashing into a 1986 Honda motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, went over the Cadillac's hood, sustaining what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect vehicle slowed down just long enough after the crash long enough for a witness to get information and a photo. Then driver then fled the scene.
Deputies, officers and medical personnel from Clackamas Fire District #1, Oregon State Police and American Medical Response responded to the crash scene. The injured motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Left behind at the scene: large pieces of the front of the Cadillac, including its grill and license plate.
After fleeing the scene, the suspect pulled into the parking lot at the nearby Damascus Safeway. The suspect driver then entered the Safeway and made purchases before abandoning the vehicle in the grocery parking lot.
Authorities were alerted by Safeway employees about a suspicious person in the parking lot. Deputies responded to the store and found the abandoned suspect Cadillac -- and retrieved store surveillance photos and footage of the male suspect driver.
Investigators are now asking for the public's help to ID the suspect.
