Delays Expected I-5 North To Seattle

road construction

Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead for back-to-back weekends of northbound Interstate 5 lane reductions in Nisqually. The lane closures will allow crews to replace a bridge approach slab near the Nisqually River Bridge.

Work schedule:

10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, June 14-17 and June 21-24

Two of the three northbound lanes will remain open. The two open lanes will be narrower than usual with a reduced speed limit of 35 mph.

The Washington State Department of Transportation expects significant traffic backups during the work, especially each Sunday afternoon. Travelers in the area can help reduce delays by following a few travel tips:

• Allow extra time to travel through the work zone.

• Ride transit or carpool.

• Travel early, before 9 a.m., or later, after 9 p.m., or reschedule discretionary trips.

Both weekends are weather-dependent and could be rescheduled.
