Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa hasn't heard from his father since his politically-motivated arrest in Nicaragua and the show's cast is amplifying the story to find him.
Francisco Aguirre-Sacasa has been fighting the dictatorship in his home country for years in the hopes of creating a democracy and true freedom. He was arrested July 27th and disappeared with more than thirty other political prisoners. Deadline is reporting the Nicaraguan government finally confirmed where Roberto is being held and that he's officially been charged with treason and conspiracy. Roberto's wife Maria was able to see him once for ten minutes. However, Maria has tried several times giving the prison her husband's medication but they're not getting to him.
KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Cami Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Vanessa Morgan and more from the Riverdale cast posted a video sharing Roberto's story hoping to bring global attention to a heartbreaking reality.
People in the U.S. have been shouting about encroached freedoms during the pandemic but this is truly a violation of human rights. It can be hard to understand if you don't have loved ones in a developing country with a corrupt government and unrest, but this is the reality. I know a man from Colombia (my mom's home country) who was eight years old the last time he saw his father because he was kidnapped by rebels and disappeared.
There's a petition to bring more attention to the conditions of the prisoners at justiceforfranciso.org.
