Missing Camper In Cascades Found After Three Days

A man missing near Russell Lake in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness since Tuesday has been found alive.

68-year-old John Nelson was stuck in a deep drainage near the South Breitenbush Trail. It's been closed since the 2020 wildfires, due to fallen trees.

Searchers found him Thursday night. They spent the night with him and he was flown out Friday morning on an Oregon Army National Guard helicopter.

He was evaluated by medics and returned to his family.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says it's best to hike with a partner and carry a GPS communications device in case you get lost.
