A climber from Nevada died in a fall on Mt. Washington in the Central Oregon Cascades on Thursday.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says 77-year-old Bob Pickering was climbing the mountain by himself.

He was last seen near the 78-hundred foot summit when a nearby guide heard a rockslide.

An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter crew spotted Pickering's body 200 feet below the summit. He was in steep and hazardous terrain.

A search and rescue team is developing a plan to recover his body.
