Scarlett Johansson Sues Disney Over 'Black Widow' Release

UPDATE: The Walt Disney Company has issued an official statement following this morning's news regarding Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow lawsuit.

"There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date."

Scarlett Johansson Sues Disney Over ‘Black Widow’ Streaming Release

Huge news with potential ramifications for every major studio. Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney for releasing Black Widow on both streaming service and theatrical release at the same time. Her agreement guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release for her solo film. Her salary was based in large part on the box office performance of Black Widow. “Black Widow” set to pandemic-era box office record with its $80 million in North America and earned an additional $78 million overseas and $60 million on Disney Plus. So that probably means she doesn't see any $ from that $60 million on Disney+.

Do you think the release of Black Widow on both Disney+ and in theaters hurt the release of the movie or do you think the movie just wasn't good?
