Regal Cinemas Has Closed All US Theaters

If you haven't already, load up on snacks and pack your streaming queue because seeing a movie in theaters will be lots more difficult starting today. Regal Cinemas, the second-largest theater chain in the US, will indefinitely shut all 7,155 screens in 42 states in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus. "At this time, we have made the difficult decision to close our theaters. We value our movie-loving customers and have no doubt we will be serving them again as soon as possible with a full slate of Hollywood blockbusters," said parent company CEO Mooky Greidinger. Regal is the first of the big three to go dark during the pandemic.

Update: 3/17 You can now add AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, and Landmark to that list. No more going out to see films.
