'Joker' Movie Will Not Play at Aurora Shooting Movie Theater

Warner Bros.’ upcoming flick “The Joker” will not be playing at the theater that was the site of the 2012 massacre in Aurora, Colorado, according to a report. The studio reached the decision along with Cinemark, which owns the Aurora theater where a gunman killed 12 people during a midnight screening of “The Dark Night Rises,” Deadline reported. Family members of those killed in the massacre have signed a letter expressing concerns about the film starring Joaquin Phoenix. “We are calling on you to be a part of the growing chorus of corporate leaders who understand that they have a social responsibility to keep us all safe,” they wrote, according to Deadline. In the letter, the group said they were given pause when they learned the plot “presents the character as a protagonist with a sympathetic origin story.” The families didn’t ask Warner Bros. to pull the flick, though they urged the studio to “use your massive platform and influence to join us in our fight to build safer community."
