New Study Says Ball Pits Are Crawling With Infection-Causing Germs

Ever wonder why you don't see Ball Pits around as much as you did decades ago? Uh, they are filthy! McDonald's Play Places or even Chuck E Cheese were places I first experienced one as a kid. Ya, there were fun. Kids had a blast in them! (probably still do, if they were often cleaned) Let's face it, it only takes one person (or kid) to ruin something great!

According to new research published in the American Journal of Infection Control, a very small study shows ball pits commonly used in pediatric physical therapy have disease-causing bacteria. Bacteria was found in high numbers on each ball, meaning there is an increased chance of contamination or disease. Some of the bacteria found can cause meningitis, urinary tract infections, sepsis and pneumonia. I mean, I knew they were dirty, but not that bad! Ewww.
