John Mayer Defends Justin Bieber's 'Purpose World Tour' Cancellation

Justin Bieber caused a wave of headlines on Monday (July 24) when it was announced that his remaining leg of the "Purpose World Tour" would be canceled with little to no explanation besides the pop star requesting some much-needed rest. Still, John Mayer sees the importance in the Biebster's move and has come forward to defend the chart-topper.

Following the pop star's announcement, Mayer took to Twitter to sound off on the news, giving him props for making his health a priority. "When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going," the 39-year-old industry vet wrote. "We've lost so many great artists lately. I give Justin 👍🏼 👍🏼  for realizing it was time to call it. You should too."

Bieber's "Purpose World Tour" started in March 2016 in support of his blockbuster LP, Purpose, and went onto gross $163.3 million in the last year, according to industry tracker Pollstar. Saturday's show in Arlington, Texas marks the first canceled show. However, all tickets will be refunded.

"Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them," a statement read on Bieber's official Facebook page. "He thanks his fans for the incredible experience of the Purpose World Tour over [the] last 18 months."
