If you were planning on making a peach pie for your weekend picnic, put those plans on hold. A central California company has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of peaches, plums, nectarines and pluots over concerns over possible listeria contamination.
Wawona Packing says no illnesses have been reported but it is recalling the fruit as a precaution. The fruit was packed and shipped to Walmart, Costco, and Trader Joe's stores between June 1st and July 12th.
After internal testing found possible contamination, the company shut down the lines, retrofitted some equipment and sanitized the facility. Subsequent tests have been negative.
Listeria can cause a dangerous flu-like illness.
