You know that feeling of reaching into a coat or pants pocket and finding that $10 bill you had no idea was there? Now imagine finding a Lottery ticket worth $250,000!
Currently, the two largest unclaimed Oregon Lottery prizes include a $250,000 Mega Millions prize from September 17, 2013, and a $97,362 Keno prize from July 31, 2013. The Mega Millions ticket was purchased in The Dalles and the Keno ticket was purchased in Portland.
As is the case with nearly all Oregon Lottery games, players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. The expiration date for the Mega Millions is September 17, 2014, while the Keno prize will expire on July 31, 2014. There is still time to spare, but both prizes could alter holiday shopping lists significantly!
Each year, millions of dollars in unclaimed Lottery prizes are returned to the State to be used to help support Lottery-funded projects and programs statewide. In fiscal year 2012, nearly $6 million in unclaimed prizes were returned to the State.
If you or perhaps someone you know bought a Mega Millions or Keno ticket on those dates, it would be worth your time to see if they are the big winners. Players can go to the Lottery’s website, www.oregonlottery.org, or to any Lottery retail location to check their tickets.
The Oregon Lottery reminds players to always sign the back of their Lottery tickets, regardless of the game. In the event of winning a jackpot, they should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Prize winners of more than $50,000 should contact the Lottery office to schedule an appointment to claim their prize.
