The track and field coach at Madras High School in central Oregon is in jail, accused of having an unlawful relationship with a 17-year-old male member of the high school track team. Oregon State Police arrested 43-year-old Melissa Bowerman Monday. She is charged with sex abuse, luring a minor and online sexual corruption of a child. Police say Bowerman has been in the inappropriate relationship with the boy since May. Police are worried there could be other victims.
Two years ago, Bowerman was forced to resign as coach of the Condon/Wheeler High School track team, after she went to the prom with one of the team members. Bowerman said she felt bad because he didn't have a date. She wasn't charged with a crime but was forced to leave her post as coach.
Bowerman is the daughter-in-law of Bill Bowerman, who co-founded Nike and was a legendary track coach at the University of Oregon.
